This article looks at some apps that help you stay connected, spread news and share content. Whether it’s for your phone, connecting on social media, editing photos or just organising your thoughts, there’s an app for it!
This is a great little phone app, available on both iPhone and Android and one that I have used a few times whilst away from friends and family last year. Touchnote allows you to make postcards directly from the photos you take on your phone! This is perfect for when you are on holiday, take a great, personal photo of your travels and want to share it with a special note to loved ones. All you need to do is upload your photo, write a custom message, pay as little as 99p and send it to your friends and family. They get a unique postcard and you get to share your photos in a fun, quirky way! Not on holiday? Doesn’t matter, if you have a friend you love and want to send them a little token, this is perfect for that too!
Thunderclap.it is an app which allows you to share causes and events online via social media. They understand the power of social media, it can be used to inform, educate and bring about change. This is what this site does. You can set up a Thunderclap.it of your own, people can join it and then come a set day, everyone who is signed up to that clap will Facebook and Tweet it automatically. This sends out a wave of people all talking about your cause at the same time, meaning they are sharing with their friends and suddenly your message has been amplified more than you could hope to imagine! You don’t just need to create claps, you can simply browse the sight for good causes to sign up to and add to your claps. It’s brilliant for people campaigning for change and also for those who like to have a hand in helping bring it about.
Viber isn’t a new app but I like it so much that I’m going to tell you about it anyway. Available on iPhone, Windows and Android, Blackberry, Nokia and Bada. It allows you to make free phone calls and send free texts and photos. This is brilliant for keeping in touch for free, as long as you have internet on your phone, staying in touch with friends and family, particularly if you are traveling or keeping up with someone who is. It’s reliable, intuitive, free and fun, something all good apps should be!
Timehop is a phone app which you can connect your social media platforms to and then it presents you with old posts from years ago on the present date that you may have forgotten about. It’s a brilliant way of getting a small reminder about what you were doing, thinking, where you were or who you with this time x amount of years ago. Memories are there to be remembered and this app allows you to do that by sharing your social media with you. Connect to your Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Instagram and Flickr to get a wide range of your own past in snippet from each morning.
iMotion HD is a free app for people with iPhones, iPods and iPads. It allows you to take photos, videos, including make time-lapse videos, edit movies and upload directly to YouTube and/or Facebook. It allows you to capture your videos at four different rates, you can film in portrait or landscape mode depending on what you require. It’s great for people who need simple, easy and no fuss video apps when they are on the go. In a world where gadgets can be overly complicated, this one is not and that’s why it works so well.
There really is an app for everything these days, it’s just a case of knowing what you want and where to find it. Finding the right ones for you can take trial and error and everyone’s needs are different but hopefully reading about what’s on offer can help you find the one you need.
